About Us

A mission to protect our wild places, wildlife and to tread lightly

Balu Blue Foundation is a DGR endorsed, registered Australian Environmental Charity, and Not-For-Profit, founded in 2016 by conservationist and wildlife advocate Brinkley Davies.

Our mission is widespread protection and enhancement of the natural environment across Australia.

Our mission involves conservation of both land-based and marine environments, protection of species, rescue and rehabilitation of injured wildlife, and restoration of destroyed habitats to provide sanctuary for our wildlife.

We educate the public on wildlife rescue, and living with a lighter footprint. Balu Blue Foundation aims to educate and inspire sustainable and ethical living, that minimises our harm to the oceans, animals, and our planet as a whole.

Balu Blue Foundation Inc. 2016.

Behind the name Balu Blue. . . .

Balu Blue Foundation was founded by Brinkley Davies, driven by a life-long passion and love for all animals, and environmental protection.

" Balu " represents the loving memory of Brinkley's beloved pet dog Balu.

" Blue " represents our planet, made up of 71 percent water, the term Blue represents everything as whole, land and sea.

Balu Blue Foundation will always be in loving memory of Balu, named after “Baloo” the gentle and caring bear in the movie “The Jungle Book”.

Balu inspired many to be patient, caring and to appreciate the environment around us, as well as having a love for all living things, especially the ocean. Balu sadly passed away in 2016 at the young age of 1 year, from consuming 1080 poison, on land nearby to farmland in South Australia, which was absolutely devastating. 1080 is a toxic and awful poison that is still used to this day for the control of many species, native and non-native. It is incredibly toxic, and causes excruciating death to creatures it is consumed by. Unfortunately there is no anti-dote to 1080, and nothing could be done on a veterinary level to save Balu, many people lose beloved dogs, horses, and other pets across Australia and New Zealand as a result of this toxic poison, it is also unknown the statistics of effects on non-target wildlife. We hope to encourage users of this poision to move away from the use of 1080 poison, in hope for more humane and less detrimental alternatives. You can help fight to ban 1080 poison, at the link here http://ban1080.org.au/

Three Pillars of Action

Rehabilitation

A focus on short-term, immediate action by enabling our own care for injured marine life and native animals, while funding and connecting wildlife carers across Australia.

Education

Education is key to creating lasting change and we strive to raise awareness and share knowledge to foster a community of responsible environmental stewards.

Preservation

For long-term impact, we have a vision to acquire land with significant ecological value to protecting and preserving habitats while creating a haven for rehabilitation programs.
